Don’t Be

Don’t be the one who hangs onto words,

The twists and the turns

Of the painful verbs,

The doing words

That just don’t do

Justice to you.

Please excuse the spiteful ways

Of those who wish to say

Things that bear no truth

About your beautiful display

Of character, wisdom and

Honest words, that creates

A wholesome place

For me to dip into your poetry

And bathe amongst your metaphors of beauty

And soak in your sanctity.

Don’t be the one to give in

To the senseless sins

And tangle yourself in wasted time

With those who don’t plan to stay.

Be the one who swims with me

Into the depths of

A starlit fantasy.

Look into my eyes and see

The reflection of just how great this can be.

Don’t Be
